Tom Brennan

General | February 15, 2016

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University, Philadelphia's Catholic university in the tradition of the Brothers of the Christian Schools that is inspired by faith, dedicated to service and united in community, today announced that Dr. Thomas Brennan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, will depart the University after more than 18 years of distinguished service.  His departure will become effective at the conclusion of the Men's Basketball season allowing Dr. Brennan to pursue other professional opportunities.

Dr. Brennan's nearly two decade tenure leaves an impressive legacy, which is highlighted by his keen focus on nurturing and supporting the "student-athlete." La Salle University student-athletes have consistently demonstrated academic excellence through GPA and high Graduation Rates, which have frequently been among the finest at the NCAA Division 1 level.

Further, the competitive success of La Salle University's men's and women's athletic programs have included achievements such as an NCAA 'Sweet 16' appearance by Men's Basketball in 2013, 4 straight NCAA Tournament appearances for Women's Soccer and consistent NCAA postseason appearances by members of the Men's and Women's Diving Team and Men's and Women's Track and Cross Country Teams.  Tom has also provided true leadership in advancing athletic fund development and athletic revenue programs which, in particular, have contributed to the enhancement of athletic facilities at La Salle over many years

"The leadership of Tom Brennan on behalf of La Salle within the NCAA, Atlantic 10 and Big 5 has been exemplary," said Dr. Colleen M. Hanycz, President of La Salle University.  "His contributions to our community are significant not simply in terms of student-athlete and programmatic success but in his commitment to Title IX, which ensures equitable opportunities for men and women.  He has also shown wonderful encouragement of community service initiatives among student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout his time here.  Tom has remained ever-faithful to the Lasallian mission and for that we are deeply grateful.  We wish him best has he moves onto new endeavors."

"20th and Olney will always have a special place in my heart," said Dr. Brennan.  "It has been a rewarding experience to serve this University and its students for so long.  We have much of which we can be proud.  Now is the time for my family and I to pursue new opportunities and seek new challenges.  I am grateful to the La Salle University community for its longtime support and I wish all of our student-athletes and coaches continued success."

With Dr. Brennan's forthcoming departure in March, La Salle University plans to appoint an interim Athletic Director within the coming weeks.  A national search to replace Dr. Brennan will formally commence at a later date.
