Fia Jonsson earned Co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award along with Saint Joseph's Emily Gingrich while teammate
Marcela Robinson earned Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced today.
Â
"We're very excited for both Fia and Marcela to receive this recognition from the Atlantic 10," said head coach
Paul Royal. "We felt they both had an integral part in our team's success this past weekend and hope they continue to contribute to our success for the remainder of the season."
Â
Jonsson tallied six points in wins over Navy and regionally-ranked James Madison last week, including the game-winning goal against the Dukes on Sunday. The senior had previously assisted Markykate Bateman's equalizer in the 47th minute. Against Navy on Friday, Jonsson assisted the game-winner before adding an insurance goal in a 2-0 victory.
Â
Robinson, a defensive midfielder, anchored a defense that allowed just one goal in two wins last week for the Explorers. The rookie from Owing Mills, Md. and the Explorers shutout Navy, a team that had scored six goals in their last outing, then held James Madison to just one score and three shots on goal, snapping a four-game winning streak.
Â
The Explorers are back in action this week as they travel to Princeton on Wednesday for a 7 PM match with the Tigers at Roberts Stadium.
