PHILADELPHIA – Three former athletes and a Dad Vail Champion men's crew will be inducted into the La Salle University Hall of Athletes, the La Salle Alumni Association and Athletic Department announced today.
Russ Bono '84, Fred Morris '77, Crista Ricketts '07 and the
1991 Dad Vail Champs will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game on February 14 vs. Davidson. A post-game reception and the induction program will follow at Tree Tops on campus at approximately 4:30 PM.
Russ Bono (Philadelphia, Pa. / North Catholic) was a four-year letterwinner in men's soccer from 1979-82 who set the school record for career goals (32) and career points (71). In 1982, his 13 goals and 30 points ranked second all-time in a season. He scored 11 goals as a junior in 1981. A three-time All-ECC selection, Bono also earned All-Region and All-Philadelphia Soccer 7 Honors twice. Bono scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Explorers to the 1982 ECC Championship. He also lettered in baseball for one season.
Fred Morris (Penns Grove, N.J. / Penns Grove) was a four-year letterwinner in baseball from 1974-77 and remains the highest professional draft pick in program history (11
th Round, Houston Astros). As a senior in 1977, he earned all-ECC honors after going 4-1 with a 1.72 ERA, which still stands as the lowest in school history. He struck out 50 batters in 41 innings and pitched the first no-hitter in program history versus Hofstra. Morris played three seasons of professional baseball, reaching as high as Double-A.
Crista Ricketts (Douglassville, Pa. / Daniel Boone) was a three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection and four-time All-Philadelphia Big 5 pick in women's basketball from 2004-07. She finished her career third on La Salle's all-time scoring list with 1,645 points and was the 2004 A-10 and Big 5 Rookie of the Year. Her 15.1 points per game scoring average is also third all-time. She ranks in the top six in nine career categories. Following graduation, Ricketts played professionally in Portugal, Austria, Australia and Spain. She was a 2014 inductee into the Philadelphia Big 5 Hall of Fame.

Russ Mellott '91 won the 1991 Dad Vail Championship. The Explorers beat out 45 other entries to become La Salle's first Varsity 4+ Dad Vail Champions in program history. The boat was undefeated during the spring of 1991. The Explorers were coached by Pete Sigmund.
