Jeff Williams Adds Transfer Ebony Wells To La Salle Women's Basketball Roster

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Women's Basketball Head Coach Jeff Williams has announced the incoming transfer of Ebony Wells, a 6'2 power forward/center with experience at Florida State, to the Explorer lineup for 2014-15.

"I am so excited about Ebony joining our family here at La Salle," Williams said. "Not only are we getting a quality basketball player, we are also getting a tremendously gifted student and a first class young lady who will serve as an ambassador not only for our program, but for the University as well."

Wells was a reserve on a Florida State squad that spent a large portion of the 2012-13 season ranked in the AP Top 25 and advanced to the NCAA Second Round as a No. 8 seed. She appeared in nine games as a Seminole after redshirting her freshman year. She also earned ACC Academic Honor Roll twice for maintaining a GPA above 3.00 for both academic years she spent in Tallahassee. She spent the 2013-14 season at Chipola College, helping the squad advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association national semifinals and eventually capture third place in the tournament.

The Grovetown, Ga., product lifted Grovetown High School to the Georgia state playoffs for the first time in school history as a senior. The squad finished with a 25-3 record and was ranked in the top three in the state for much of the season. Wells averaged a double-double of 19.8 ppg and 13.0 rpg as a senior while recording 5.3 blocked shots per game. The consensus top-100 prospect according to the 2011 All-Star Girls Report, ESPN HoopGurlz and Blue Star Basketball rankings captured Georgia Class AAA First Team All-State and Columbia County First Team honors as a senior. Her senior season came on the heels of a missed junior season due to injury. Wells played at Harlem High School her first two seasons, averaging 14.7 ppg and 7.7 rpg as a sophomore. She holds school records at both Grovetown (34 points) and Harlem (33 points) for scoring in a single game. She also played for the Georgia Pistols Elite and Dream Team AAU teams.yed for the Georgia Pistols Elite and Dream Team AAU Squads.

Wells graduated No. 11 in her class at Grovetown with a 3.9 GPA and was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society in high school.
