PHILADELPHIA -
Kelsey Haycook connected with
Emily Fenton twice to score her sixth and seventh goals of the season en route to a La Salle victory, 4-0, over Loyola (Md.). Six Explorers earned points in today's win, improving La Salle's record to 6-1-0 on the season.
Â
"I thought
Kelsey Haycook was superb in today's game," said head coach
Paul Royal. "Her first goal was huge for us gaining some much-needed momentum. The girls brought a lot of energy and pressure today that produced quality chances for us throughout the game."
Â
Haycook's first goal of the day came just under 10 minutes into the game when Fenton sent a pass to the right wing. Haycook took two dribbles and fired a shot past Loyola keeper Didi Haracic for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.Â
Â
The Greyhounds would keep La Salle off the board for the remainder of the half, but in the 56
th minute, Fenton would find Haycook again, this time after firing a shot of her own off the near post to Haycook who buried the rebound in the box.
Â
Just over 10 minutes later, La Salle converted a corner kick into an excellent goal by senior
Ashley Chilcoat. Chilcoat netted her first goal of the season off a double assist from teammates
Anna Dolhansky and
Maryam Huseini, unloading from long range and ricocheting the ball off the underside of the cross bar for the score.Â
Â
Chilcoat remained hungry and less than five minutes later sent in a beautiful cross that classmate
Renee Washington would head in for her fourth goal of the season.
Â
La Salle's three second-half goals came within a fifteen-minute span and solidified the victory over the Greyhounds, who recorded just three shots on goal during the match.
Â
Katie Getzinger earned the win for La Salle, improving her record to 3-1-0. The shut out is the junior's first of the season.
Â
"Our backline held strong behind a special performance from
Ashley Chilcoat. It was also great to see
Katie Getzinger get her first career shutout."Â
Â
The Explorers travel to Storrs, Connecticut on Thursday to face UConn in mid-week action. The Huskies are 5-3-0 on the season, and are currently receiving votes in the NSCAA National Rankings.
Â
"Our main focus shifts towards our matchup against a very talented UConn team. This is going to be one of our toughest challenges this season, but I'm confident the girls will be looking to prove something."
