Farrell Announces Incoming Men's Soccer Freshman Class

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle Men's Soccer Head Coach Pat Farrell has announced the addition to six student-athletes to the roster for the 2013 season. Three of the six will join the squad from the state of Maryland, along with two from Pennsylvania and one from New Jersey.
 
Liam Boger (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) joins the Explorers from northwest Pennsylvania, where he was a four-year letterman and three-year starter on the Warren Area High School squad. A prolific scorer from the center midfield position, Boger finished his high school career with 53 goals and 50 assists. He also provides a defensive spark, as he was the school record holder for tackles and steals. The 2012 All-State pick and two-time All-Region pick helped Warren Area to its first District 10 title. He played club ball on a number of teams, including the PA West 94 Boys ODP, Erie Admirals, Erie Premier and Millcreek Soccer Association.
 
Sam Howard (Takoma Park, Md./Burke School) is a 6'1 goalkeeper. The four-year varsity starter at the Edmund Burke School in Washington, D.C., is a three-time all-conference pick while setting school records for both saves in a game and saves in a season. Howard played club ball with the Potomac Cougars '93, helping the squad to the 2010 Maryland State Cup. A three-sport athlete, Howard also played basketball and ran track.
 
David Keen (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) is also joins the Explorers from the state of Maryland, hailing from the same high school as recent graduate Alex Workman. Keen, a 6'0 midfielder, was a four-year varsity player at Broadneck, helping his squad to the 2010 Maryland 4A regional finals and 2009 state semifinals. The two-year team captain also played with the Freestate Red Devils for five years, leading the squad to the US Club Soccer U16 regional title in 2011. He also led the club squad to the 2012 Disney Soccer Showcast semifinals and 2011 Maryland State Cup semifinals.
 
Conor Nichols (Wall, N.J./Wall) is a 6'2 forward hailing from the Jersey Shore. Nichols played three seasons on the Wall High School team before forgoing his senior season to play Academy ball with the NJSA04 U18 Academy Team. While at Wall, Nichols earned All-Shore Conference honors twice while leading his squad to the 2010 Shore Conference C-Central Division title. With NJSA04, Nichols was the leading goal scorer and helped the U16 team advance to the Academy National Playoffs in 2012. In 2011, he led the squad to the Northeast Pre-Academy Cup Championship. Nichols will be a member of the La Salle Honors Program and major in Integrated Science, Business & Technology.
 
Melvin Thomas II (Elkridge, Md./Mount St. Joseph) is a 5'9 midfielder who also hails from Maryland. He was a two-year varsity starter at Mount St. Joseph High School and most recently played club ball with the Bethesda Gunners where he was also a two-year starter with the age group above him.
 
Matt Robinson (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) is a 5'7 midfielder from nearby North Penn High School, where he was a four-year varsity player. Robinson, one of TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top 150 players of 2013, earned First Team All-Suburban One in both his junior and senior seasons as well as Reporter and Times Herald Player of the Year honors. Robinson also played club ball with the NJSA04 Academy, leading the squad to the regional championship. The two-sport athlete also wrestled in high school, earning Suburban One honors and qualifying for the AAAA regional meet.
 
The Explorers open their season on Friday, Aug. 30, when they travel to Lafayette for a 7 p.m. contest. Their home opener is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 4, as they host Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m.
