QUEENS, N.Y. – The La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at the hands of #22 St. John's (6-4-1) on Tuesday evening at Belson Stadium in a game televised on ESPN3. Senior goalkeeper
John McCarthy made a season-high 11 saves in the defeat.
Despite being outshot 14-5 in the first half, the Explorer defense stood firm as the period ended with no score. The Red Storm got on the board in the 67
th minute, however, on a Brandon Sevino header to put the home team up 1-0.
St. John's added two more scores in the 79
th minute to put the match out of reach. The Red Storm outshot the Explorers 34-8 in the contest.
Several of McCarthy's 11 saves were of the acrobatic variety, turning away shot after shot against the 22
nd ranked team in the land. La Salle put three shots on goal during the game, one each from
Joe Farrell,
Pat Sullivan, and
Tom Baker.
The Explorers (3-5-2) open up Atlantic 10 play on Friday evening when they host Duquesne at McCarthy Stadium.
