PHILADELPHIA - La Salle women's soccer kicked off its 2012 campaign with its first day on campus Wednesday, August 1. Student-athletes moved into temporary housing just before the annual compliance meeting and fitness test.
“I was really excited to see how dedicated the girls were over the summer,” head coach
Paul Royal said. “They did really well on their first fitness test and everybody seems to be hungry.”
The Explorers coming off a 2011 season for the record books, going undefeated during the regular season and winning the Atlantic 10 regular season championship. The performance earned the team an at-large berth to the 2011 NCAA Tournament and two returning players,
Renee Washington and
Kelsey Haycook, were named second team All-Americans.
“We know we're going to be a team that everyone's aware of this year whereas last season we kind of shocked everybody.” explained Royal. “It's going to be really important for the girls to treat every training day like it's their last and to bring their A-game every day.”
The team will play its first game on Friday, August 17
at West Virginia.
