PHILADELPHIA - Men's soccer players
John McCarthy,
Jason Plumhoff and Glenroy "Junior" Chapman helped lead the Ocean City Nor'easters to the Premier Development League Mid-Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference regular season titles with a 1-0 win over the Brooklyn Knights on Sunday night.
All three were in the starting lineup as the squad capped off a 13-3 season that spanned from May until the regular season finale last night, bouncing back from a seventh place finish in the division in 2011 to attain the best record in the East this season. The 39 points amassed is currently the third-best in the 73-team league.
McCarthy has been the team's primary goalkeeper this summer, playing 1,241 minutes in net while amassing 67 saves and recording a .725 goals against average. He also has three assists credited to him this season.
Plumhoff has recorded seven points on two goals and three assists this season while taking 23 shots in 14 games played. His three assists ties him for second on the team.
Chapman has also seen 12 games of action in his fourth season with the team.
The Ocean City Nor'easters are part of the Premier Development League of USL Soccer, which is the top amateur league in North America. The 2012 division title marked the third in franchise history.
