AMHERST, Mass. - Wayne Bartholomew led the La Salle men's track team with a gold medal in the 800 meter finals on the final day of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships at the University of Massachusetts on Sunday.

The Explorers finished sixth in the team standings with 51 points. Charlotte swept both the men's and women's titles, with the 49er men collecting 210 points.

"We are very pleased with the two A-10 champions and six medalists we had," Head Coach Dan Ireland said. "We scored in almost every event that had someone compete in this weekend. It was a positive ending to a challenging year."

Bartholomew clocked a 1:50.79, besting second-place finisher Andrew Townsend of Saint Joseph's by eight-hundredths of a second. It was also a personal record for Bartholomew by nearly two seconds, bettering his previous best of 1:52.73 set last year. Paul Reilly was also in the 800 final, finishing fifth in the tight race with a time of 1:51.84.

Alfredo Santana won the silver medal in the 5K with a time of 14:31.75. He was edged out in a heartbreaker to Temple's Travis Mahoney by a mere four-hundredths of a second, but the time marked a personal record by over 11 seconds. His previous best was a 14:42.88 last season. Dave Hausherr finished 13th in the 5K with a 14:47.30 and Tom Pannulla rounded out the Explorers with a 25th place finish (15:26.28).

Nick Crits was the third medalist of the day, capturing bronze in the 1500 meter run. He clocked a 3:48.14 in a race that saw the top four times beat out the previous meet record of 3:50.19. Nick Ross and Vince Perozze clocked identical 3:51.97 times to go 8-9; Ross was awarded the point.

The Explorers now turn their eyes to upcoming postseason meets, starting with the IC4A Championships next weekend at Princeton.
