PHILADELPHIA – Courtney Niemiec was tabbed a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first team Mid-Atlantic Region performer, the association announced today. Joining Niemiec on the all-region list was
Renee Washington as a second team selection and
Kelsey Haycook with a third team nod.
Niemiec thwarted opposing offensive attacks all season long, anchoring an Explorer defense which shut out opponents 10 times. She earned A-10 Defensive Player of the Year recognition and has been named one of 36 finalists for
Soccer News Net's Player of the Year.
Washington was recently named to Co SIDA's Academic All-America team and was a first team A-10 selection as a midfielder for the second straight year. The junior led the Explorers this season in points (23) and netted both La Salle goals in a 2-1 overtime victory over VCU in the conference championship game.
Haycook led the Blue and Gold in goals (9) and tallied 22 total points despite missing five games due to injury. The sophomore scored the Explorers lone goal in its first round NCAA matchup at Virginia and notched a hat trick in a 6-2 win over Seton Hall on September 7.
