![]() La Salle RadioThe La Salle Radio Network has reached an agreement with WHAT 1340 to make their 1340 AM signal the flagship station for La Salle University men's basketball. WHAT 1340 began its partnership with Explorer hoops in the 2007-08 season when it stepped in and carried the Explorers' road victory at Duquesne as well as both games in the Atlantic 10 Championships. Look for WHAT 1340 to become a regular presence at Explorer sporting events and related functions as well as part of their regular weekly programming on non-game days and listen to the games on AM 1340 beginning with the 2008-09 season opener on November 15th against Morgan State.

Kale Beers Kale Beers is in his seventh full year as the Director of Athletic Communications for Explorer Athletics. The voice of Explorer basketball for the past 11 seasons, Beers is the longest tenured play-by-play man in the Big 5 and only the great Dan Baker (Drexel) has called more city series games among current broadcasters. Beers will broadcast his 300th Explorer men's basketball game by the end of the 2007-08 season He has also called close to 500 Explorer events including men's and women's basketball and football since 1996. Beers took over the Athletic Communications office in January of 2002 after serving in various capacities in each of the past 12 years including the Director of Corporate Sales/Broadcasting. In this position, he was responsible for the Department's Corporate Partnership program and coordination of the La Salle Basketball Radio Network, which he helped form in 1996. Beers is also an adjunct instructor in the University's Department of Communication. He is in his eighth year as an instructor of Public Speaking (Comm 150). Beers has also begun work on his Masters in Business Administration at the University. A 1995 maxima cum laude graduate of La Salle's Department of Communication, Beers is currently working in his 15th season in professional and collegiate sports. His career began as a junior at La Salle when he secured an internship with the Philadelphia Phillies. He would continue to work in the Phillies' Video Services Department through the 1996 season and has since built an exceptional resume as a play-by-play broadcaster and public relations director for the minor league affiliates of the Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels, and the Kansas City Royals. Most recently, he has served as an official scorer and fill-in radio broadcaster for the Reading Phillies. Beers has also worked close to a dozen NCAA men's basketball tournament games over the last three seasons including Regional Finals in Austin TX (2005), Washington, DC (2006) and East Rutherford, NJ (2007) as well as opening round games in Philadelphia in 2006 where he assisted in media operations. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors Association (Co-SIDA), East Coast Association of Colleges Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) and the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association. Beers, 36, was born in Emmaus, PA., and is a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served six years (two in active duty) as a Cavalry Scout.
Steve Degler Steve Degler joined La Salle for the 1997-1998 season of Explorer basketball and now enters his eleventh season as the color analyst on the La Salle Basketball Radio Network. Degler has also been the voice of the Reading Phillies for the past 15 seasons. Along with his work with the Reading Phillies, Degler has also worked for 12 years as radio/TV broadcaster and public address announcer for football and basketball at Kutztown University. Degler has been involved for nine years as a radio and TV broadcaster for high school and college soccer, football, and basketball games in Philadelphia, Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties, calling numerous district and state tournament contests, including four state championship games. He also has called dozens of Reading Phillies games throughout the Mid-Atlantic region on the CN8 television network. A 1988 graduate of Kutztown University, with a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications, he and his wife, Karen, and his daughters Sarah and Hannah reside in Hamburg, PA. Degler also handles play-by-play duties for a selected number of LRN broadcasts.
