Associate Athletic Director D'Orazio Accepts New Position

Philadelphia, PA- La Salle University Associate Athletic Director for Advancement, Peter D'Orazio, has announced his resignation effective July 20th, 2009.

D'Orazio will leave to take a position with the Wiliamson Free School of Mechanical Trade as Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

His departure ends 27 years of employment at the University for D'Orazio who is a 1981 graduate of the school. He began his association with La Salle as an undergraduate student where he served as a manager for the men's basketball team under then-head coach Paul Westhead. After earning his masters' degree in Recreation Supervision and Administration at Temple University he returned to his alma mater to serve in the positions of Facilities' Director and Director of Tickets and Intramurals before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director and eventually Associate Athletic Director.

During his 11-year tenure as Associate Athletic Director for Advancement, D'Orazio was responsible for implementing the formation of the Explorer Club, the school's official fund development and athletic booster organization. He also led the inception of such annual fundraising events as the annual Explorer Club Auction and Spring Fund Drive. Under his direction, alumni donations and involvement in the booster organization saw unparalleled growth.

"We certainly will miss Peter's presence and influence in our department," noted Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation, Dr. Thomas Brennan. "His loyalty to La Salle, commitment to Explorer athletics and connection to our alumni, fans and supporters can't be underestimated. Pete is also a fine person. We are sorry to see him go but wish him the very best of luck in his new and future endeavors'."

D'Orazio also oversaw the Athletic Communciations office, the community service outreach effort - Project TeamWork, the Corporate Partnership program and Athletic Promotions among other areas.

An on campus farewell party will be held to honor D'Orazio on Thursday, July 16th in the Hayman Center from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM followed by an off campus celebration at The Ugly Moose restaurant (443 Shurs Lane, Manayunk) at 6:30 PM.
