What Alumni Is Saying About La Salle...

Bill Raftery '63
Bill Raftery is, perhaps, one of the most recognized broadcasters in college basketball history. Raftery serves as a college basketball analyst for CBS and ESPN and also broadcasts the NCAA Men's Final Four for CBS Radio/Westwood One. In addition to broadcasting collegiate action, Raftery was a former commentator for the New Jersey Nets, he has broadcasted the McDonald's High School All-American Game and he has also been affiliated with Senior TOUR events. Raftery totaled a 154-141 career record as head coach of Seton Hall University and also served as basketball and golf coach at Fairleigh Dickinson. In 1979, Raftery was named Coach of the Year by the New Jersey Basketball Writers Association. As a three-year player at La Salle, he averaged 17.8 points as a sophomore and then co-captained the team to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in his senior season. Raftery, who is La Salle's first ever Honorary Inductee into the Hall of Athletes, received an Honorary Doctorate from La Salle in 2001.

Frank Corace '64
Big 5 Hall of Famer Frank Corace was one of the original Explorers who built the basketball foundation at La Salle. In 1963, he helped lead La Salle to the NIT and the following year, his team won the Big 5 title. Corace, who was an Honorable Mention All-American and the MAC's co-MVP in 1964, scored 1,411 career points and is a member of the La Salle Hall of Athletes. After playing and coaching in the Eastern Professional Basketball League from 1964-70, Corace moved to Gwynedd Mercy Academy and coached there from 1982-85 and then returned in 1993-94. Aside from his playing days, Corace is now the Director at Valley Forge Asset Management Co.

Charles "Chip" Greenberg '86
Charles "Chip" Greenberg is one of the most revered Explorers in program history. Greenberg, who played from 1982-86, is a member of the 1,000 point club tallying 1,227 for his career. In his final season as an Explorer, Greenberg led his team in scoring (16.8), rebounds (5.2), assists (3.76), steals (2.36) and free throw percentage (.843). As a result of his accomplishments, he was selected to the All-Big 5 and All-MAAC teams in his final year. Greenberg, who is enshrined in the La Salle Hall of Athletes, resides in North Wales, PA and lives with his wife, Jane, son Sean and two daughters, Bailey and Nicki.

Albert "Scooter" Vertino '93
Albert "Scooter" Vertino is the producer for various NBA broadcasts on TNT. A 1993 La Salle graduate, Vertino began his career at ESPN working as a Production Assistant and then moved to Turner in 1995 to become an Associate Producer. Some of his production responsibilities include NBA on TNT, NBA All-Star Game, NBA Conference Finals and Major League Baseball's LDS series with TBS. Vertino has won an Emmy for Best Daily Sports Program (Inside the NBA) and also for his work at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. As an undergraduate at La Salle, he wrote for The Collegian, was a student broadcaster for WEXP, was the Public Address Announcer for the baseball team and interned at Channel 6 twice. Vertino lives with his wife, Beth, and the couple expects a child in February 2009.

Ray Necci '97
Ray Necci is currently a producer at ESPN and ESPN Radio. Necci, who is in his 10th year with ESPN Radio, was originally the Remote Broadcast Manager at Clear Channel Broadcasting/Hartford prior to his move to ESPN. While at Clear Channel, his duties centered around the promotions and programming fields in addition to coordinating on-site broadcasts and events for various radio stations. As an undergraduate at La Salle, Necci was a member of Sigma Phi Lambda, La Salle 56, WEXP and the Masque.
