PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 2, 2003) - Down 2-0, two players and its starting goalie, La Salle tallied a second half goal by Krista Lee, but George Washington hung on for a 2-1 victory. Liz Schmidt took a corner kick at the 59th minute and Lee was able to head the ball into the net. However, La Salle played 37 minutes of the second half two players down and could not come up with an equalizer. George Washington (11-6-2, 5-5-1 A-10) scored two quick goals in the first half. Christine Jodrie assisted on Kim Warner's 13th goal of the year 57 seconds into the game. Sarah Sample added a second goal less than two minutes later. The Colonials kept the two-goal lead through the half and had a chance to increase it. Five minutes into the second half they had two corner attempts. On each of those, La Salle goalkeeper Marisa Suarez was knocked down, the second time took her out of the game. Liz Ash stepped into the goal for La Salle for the last 40 minutes of the game and kept the Explorers in the contest. She made three saves including one at point blank range by Warner, last season's A-10 Offensive Player of the Year. She also forced Warner to miss wide of the net in earlier action, which could have put the game away. All this happened as the Explorers were down two players, who were issued red cards at the 52:38 mark, as was Head Coach Paul Royal. La Salle (3-13-1, 3-8 A-10) almost tied the game in the 75th minute of play when Lee shot the ball towards the goal. It went over the crossbar and the Explorers never had a serious threat after that. As the clock wound down, Courtney White, Lee, and Schmidt were individually substituted out of the game to applause from the fans. They each played their final game Sunday for the Explorers.
