Flyers Defeat Explorers

DAYTON, OH (October 24, 2003) - The La Salle University women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Dayton Flyers, Friday night at Baujan Field.

Liz Schmidt scored her first goal of the year, unassisted, from 10 yards out. The goal evened the score at 1-1 just 8:13 into the first half. The contest remained tied until the half.

Dayton (10-5-1, 6-2 A-10) pulled ahead 52 seconds into the second half on an own goal by the Explorers. Flyers' senior Judi Aschenbrener crossed a ball into the box and the pass bounced off a La Salle defender’s leg into the net as La Salle's goalkeeper Marisa Suarez came out to defend the cross on the far side.

The Flyers added an insurance goal at the 69 minute mark when they scored off a corner kick. Reba Sedlack, who assisted on Jamie Yates' goal in the first half, headed the ball into the back of the net.

La Salle (2-11-1, 2-6 A-10) will remain in Ohio and face Xavier on Sunday, October 26 at 1 PM before returning to Philadelphia for its final two games of the year next weekend. They host Richmond next Friday, October 31 at 3 PM at McCarthy Stadium and end their regular season with George Washington Sunday at 1 PM.
