Posted by: Matthew Smith (215-951-1637) Own goal dooms Explorers Washington DC – The La Salle University Women’s Soccer team traveled to the nation's capitol eager to shake off a bitter defeat, but instead came home with another one, falling to George Washington (4-4-2), 1-0, on an own-goal in the final minutes of the contest. The loss was especially disappointing because the Explorers (5-3-2) dominated much of the game. They out-shot the Colonials, 10-6, and led in corner kicks, 13-1. Freshman sniper Kristin Hextall (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) led the La Salle attack with two shots, both on goal. Kerry Schamberger (Levittown, NY/St. Anthony’s) was solid in net, making three saves in 90 minutes of action. For the Colonials, keeper Anna Handzlik made seven saves for the win. The only goal of the afternoon was credited to the team. The loss evened the Explorers' conference record at 1-1-0. They will continue their weekend roadtrip on Sunday, October 3rd, when they travel to the University of Richmond to take on the Spiders. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM.
