PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Women's Soccer is excited to announce that two of its players - Zovel Hyre and Lia Blake - will begin their quest to qualify for the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup with the Jamaican National Team starting Thursday night at 5:30 PM. The Reggae Girlz will get their first test in their first match of the CONCACAF Championship when they face Team USA, a match that can viewed live on Fox Soccer Channel. The final round, which begins today and runs through January 30 in Guatemala City, Guatemala will see eight squads battling for three spots in this summer's U-20 World Cup in Germany. "We're very excited about seeing our first National Team players, Lia and Zovel performing in such a high profile tournament," said La Salle Head Coach Paul Royal. "Our current Explorers are also excited about getting the chance to see both of them play on Fox Soccer Channel this Thursday. It should be an amazing experience for Lia and Zovel to play in front of a national television audience here in the United States. "With the significance of this event, we're also having our assistant, Dan Mannella in attendance for the tournament. Dan, Amy Grant and I see this event as a wonderful recruiting opportunity to help further develop our contacts as well as having the capabilities of attracting the next level player."
Mannella added, "I'm looking forward to seeing Lia and Zovel in an international setting. I'm hoping they can gain some valuable experience for themselves and pass it on to their La Salle teammates. I also hope they can help their country qualify and get to experience an Under-20 World Cup." The official website of the tournament can be viewed by clicking here. All 16 games of the final round can be viewed by visiting the site as they will all be available via live streaming video. They will also be viewable on-demand shortly after their conclusion.
