MILWAUKEE, WI - In a battle of unbeatens, the 24th-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles defeated the La Salle University Women's Soccer team, 2-0, at Valley Fields Thursday night in non-conference action. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 (all three shutouts) and have now won three straight games for only the third time in their program's history. Marquette got on the board early, scoring in the 12th minute of play off a free kick from Katie Kelly, which Michelle Compty put in the net for the 1-0 lead and the eventual game-winner. La Salle (2-1), which had registered the first shot on goal at the 5:29 mark of the first half by Sara Copare, could not manage another one the rest of the game. The only other shot of the game was by Ally Kenney in the 75th minute of the game. The Golden Eagles peppered La Salle's goalkeeper Lauren Malizia with a total of 20 shots, eight on goal with Malizia making six saves. They added an insurance goal in the 66th minute as Ashley Bares scored her second of the young season.
