![]() West Coast Proves Unfriendly to Lacrosse Team
Posted by: Sue Senner BERKELEY, CA - The La Salle women's lacrosse team kicked off a two-game road trip to the west coast on Tuesday afternoon when they faced the California Golden Bears. The Explorers drop to 0-2 on the season. Freshman Emily Bonzczek netted her second hat trick in as many games. The Explorers opened up the scoring just 1:18 into the contest, when senior Becky Boudwin connected on a pass from teammate Kate Henwood to give La Salle its brief lead of the game. California then rattled off six straight goals between 4:22 and 21:00 minutes to take a 6-1 lead. The Golden Bears got back-to-back goals from Laura Cavallo to straight the scoring drive. Cavallo landed a free position shot, followed by an unassisted goal. La Salle ended its scoring drought 22:16 into the half, when Henwood scored an unassisted goal, followed just 49 seconds later by junior Kristen Davis' unassisted goal. Davis' goal proved to be the final score of the half. In the second half, the Golden Bears wasted no time getting back to their scoring, as Liz Reifsnyder netted a shot 1:20 into the half to extend the lead to 7-3. Cavallo dropped in her third goal at 33:23 to expand the cushion to 8-3. Bonzcek then got into the action, soring the first of her three goals at 33:38 off a pass from Henwood, followed at 36:17 by an unassisted goal. Freshman Christie Walker notched California answered back with three straight goals of it s own, including a fourth goal by Cavallo. With 12:47 left to play, Davis scored again for the Explorers on a free position shot. Boudwin followed up with an unassisted goal at 48:02, and Bonzcek completed her hat trick with nine minutes to play and got the score to within two at 11-9. Cavallo landed her fifth goal just 11 seconds after Bonzcek and Molly Brady closed out the scoring with 5:26 to play off a pass from Cavallo. Sophomore Brittany Friedrich played 30 minutes in goal, allowing six goals and earning six saves, while freshman goalkeeper Chantelle McCormick also logged 30 minutes of play, allowing seven goals and earning three saves. The Explorers will close out their West Coast trip on Friday when they visit St. Mary's at 3:30 p.m. pacific time.
