Explorers Lose Opener to Hofstra

Philadelphia, PA - The Explorers opened their 2003 Field Hockey campaign with a 2-1 loss to Hofstra at the Pride Invitational. The Explorers were unable to capitalize on their chances in the first half while Hofstra was about to manage two goals.

Hofstra's sophomore Alexandra Alonge started the scoring by notching her first goal with 9:59 left in the first half against Junior goalkeeper Colleen Bolger. Kara McEneaney, a Pride freshman, netted the second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, with 2:00 left in the first session.

The Explorers came out in the second half and outshot the Pride 10-3, but were only able to slip one past the freshman goalie Jessica Cowperthwait. Sophomore forward Emily Simone lead all La Salle players with 13 shots and also was the lone goal scorer for La Salle in the 22 minute of the second half.

La Salle was able to acquire 10 corners, but was unable to capitalize on their chances. Bolger played the whole game for La Salle in net and notched 4 saves.

La Salle continues play Sunday August 31st at the Pride Invitational when it plays Sacred Heart at 11:30.
