Field Hockey Clipped By Owls in OT
Posted by: Sue Senner 215-913-5981 Explorers Drop A-10 Contest to Owls 2-1 in OT Philadelphia, PA - Both the La Salle Explorers and the Temple Owls put a 1-2 Atlantic 10 record on the line Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field, and regulation proved not long enough to decide a winner, as the Temple earned a Temple's Katie Stevenson (Wilmington, DE) slipped the ball past La Salle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) to teammate Melissa Fritze (Piscataway, NJ), who knocked a shot in to put the Owls on the board just 8:36 into the game. As both teams moved up and down the field, neither team had much success in attempting shots, but with 16:45 to play, La Salle's Allison Geiger (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) netted a follow-up shot after a penalty corner to knot the game a 1-1. The second proved uneventful, as the Explorers attempted just two shots, to Temple's six shots, of which only two were on goal. Moving into the overtime period, Temple started the period with three penalty corners, and were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. With 8:14 remaining in the overtime period, Temple was awarded a penalty stroke after Bolger fell on the ball. Temple's Alli Lokey (Bainbridge, PA) attempted a shot, which Bolger stopped with ease. Despite La Salle controlling the ball in much of the overtime period, the Owls earned a penalty corner late in the period, and Lindsay Holman (Bridgeton, NJ) tipped in a shot from Jillian Thomas (Plymouth, PA) following the corner to lift the Owls to a 2-1 win. La Salle will return to action at Hank DeVincent Field on Sunday, when they host the Saint Joseph's Owls at 12:00 p.m.
