![]() Moser Scores Twice Against Rhode Island
Posted by: Sue Senner CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF A CHAMPIONSHIP KINGSTON, RI - On a cold and rainy day and in a game that was postponed three hours due to the weather, the La Salle Explorer field hockey lost a heartbreaker to the host Rhode Island Rams at the URI Field Hockey Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Explorers fall to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the Atlantic 10, while the Rams improve to 6-8 and got their first A-10 win (1-3). It was 8:10 into the first half when the first goal hit a cage; the goal by Christin Kazmderski put the Rams on the board at 1-0 when she connected on a pass from Amy Brown. Just 2:35 later, La Salle junior Jillian Moser tied the score at 1-1 with the help of teammate Laura Farley. Moser's goal proved to be the last scoring opportunity for both teams in the first half. After the intermission, Moser, La Salle's leading scorer (13), knocked in her second goal of the contest, getting help on this goal from senior Emilie Stewart, to put the Explorers up 2-1 at the 37:25 mark. At the 46:16 mark, Rhode Island's Annie Kane took a pass from Jen Cetench to knot the game at 2 goals apiece. The teams were held scoreless in the remainder of the second half, forcing an overtime situation. After an empty first overtime, the teams prepared for a second overtime period and at the 98:18 mark, the Rams got the winning goal from Jamie Adams, assisted by Kane. Goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen tallied seven saves in the game while Rhode Island's M.J. Britt posted nine saves. Both goalies played the entire 98:18. The loss came to the Explorers despite holding a 16-14 advantage in shots and a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners. The Explorers will try for an Atlantic 10 win on Friday, October 21st when they host, that's right La Salle will be playing home at Hank DeVincent Field for just the second time this season, the Richmond Spiders at 3:30 p.m.
