![]() Field Hockey Shut Out In A-10 Opener
(Explorers Fall To Richmond, 2-0) Philadelphia, PA - In their Atlantic 10 season opener, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team hosted the Richmond Spiders Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The Spiders shut out the Explorers 2-0 to post an 11-2 overall record and a 2-0 conference records, while La Salle remains above .500 at 7-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Despite being held shotless in the first half, the scoring result was the same for both teams: 0-0. Richmond managed to get off 10 shots in the first half but could not connect for a goal. After the break, La Salle was shut out from getting a shot again, while the Richmond Spiders capitalized on their five second half shots. Sophomore Colleen Wevodau (Annville, PA/Northern Lebanon) drove down the center of the circle and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) to end the scoring drought and give the Spiders an 1-0 advantage with 22:03 remaining. With time winding down, Richmond's Whitney Wells (Clayton, DE) was successful on her shot with assistance from Emma Bradley (Kybybolite, South Australia/Pembroke School) at the 61:23 mark to give the Spiders a 2-0 victory. Bolger faced 13 direct shots, and tallied 11 saves in the contest for La Salle. Next up for the Explorers, a non-conference match-up with the Drexel Dragons on Wednesday, October 15th at 1:30 p.m. The game will be held at Saint Joseph's.
