Field Hockey Opens A-10 Season with Win Over URI


Explorers Shutout Host Rhode Island, 3-0

Kingston, RI - In the opening game of the 2004 Atlantic 10 season for the La Salle Explorers, the team posted a 3-0 shutout win over host Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon.

The Explorers dominated play early scoring their first goal two minutes into the first half. Amy Comstock took control of a loose ball and took the shot, beating Ram goalkeeper M.J. Britt for the lead, and the eventual game winner.

The Explorers continued their momentum and three minutes later Allison Geiger scored again to put the Explorers up 2-0 with the assist from Colleen Nesbitt.

The Explorers would go on to score their third goal with 7:39 to play in the first half when Geiger took advantage of a penalty stroke. Geiger took the shot and added her second goal of the day to put La Salle up 3-0.

The Explorers coasted through the second half with their three goal lead, and took four shots in the period, to Rhode Island's two.

Goalkeeper Colleen Bolger stopped six shots in her 65:21 of play, while Sarah Kearney competed for 4:39 and faced no shots.

Continuing on the road, the Explorers will face Atlantic 10 opponent Massachusetts on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
