Philadelphia, PA - In the home opener at Hank DeVincent Field, the La Salle Explorer field hockey team hosted the Rider Broncs looking for win number seven of the season. After falling behind 2-0, the Explorers could not recover and fell to the Broncs 4-2 on Monday afternoon. La Salle now stands at 6-5, while Rider improves to 9-2 for the season. After playing a scoreless game for 32 minutes, the Rider Broncs knocked in a shot at the 32:16 mark to break the drought. Junior Christina Ang (Somers Point, NJ) tipped in the ball to give the Broncs a 1-0 advantage. The Broncs wasted no time scoring again, as Ang passed the ball to freshman Angela Boulden (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) just 12 seconds later to bring the score to 2-0 for Rider. With time running out in the first half, a Rider player was called for kicking the ball out of way to give La Salle a penalty stroke. Sophomore Emilie Stewart (Hershey, PA/Hershey) knocked the shot past goalkeeper Krysta Bearish (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) to put the Explorers on the scoreboard with 42 seconds remaining. After the break, Ang scored the game-winning goal for Rider with 31:31 remaining, which pushed the Broncs ahead 3-1. With 23:44 remaining, La Salle goalie Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) was called for kicking the ball on the ground and Rider was awarded a penalty stroke. Ang attempted the shot, but Bolger batted the shot away to post the save. Shortly after the Rider stroke attempt, La Salle freshman Amy Comstock (Orangeville, PA/Benton) brought the Explorers to within one (3-2) at the 46:23 mark of the game. With 11:49 remaining in the contest, Rider's Katie Conlon (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) tipped in a pass from Maddy Boulden (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) to bring the final to 4-2. The Explorers are back in action tomorrow when they host the Bison of Bucknell at 4:00 pm on Hank DeVincent Field.
