Explorers Shut Out Robert Morris 6-0

Philadelphia, PA - Head Coach Sarah Catlin's La Salle University field hockey squad broke its three game losing streak with a 6-0 shut out over Robert Morris University today, Friday, September 17th, 2004.

The Explorers improved to 3-4 on the season behind a stellar performance out of freshman Suzanne Strocen (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) who scored two goals in the victory including the game winner at the 22:34 mark. La Salle went into half time up 2-0 after senior captain Sara Camilli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) found junior Emilie Stewart (Hershey, PA/Hershey) to get the Explorers their second goal of the game.

La Salle came out firing in the second half and scored the third goal of the game just three minutes into the period off a penalty corner. Camilli fired the ball to fellow senior Lindsey Tyler (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) waiting at the top of the circle, who found sophomore Allison Geiger (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) to put La Salle up 3-0.

The Explorers went on to score three more goals. The fourth goal was scored by junior Emily Simone (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) unassisted. Strocen then scored her second goal of the game from sophomore Jillian Moser (Lewisburg, PA/Mifflinburg). And, the final goal of the game was scored by senior Kristy Newell (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal), also unassisted.

Catlin played three different goalies in the victory, none of whom saw much action as the Explorers out-shot the Colonials 46-0. Senior stand-out Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) started for the Explorers, but was shortly relieved by freshman Ellen Axelsen (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial) who played for over 20 minutes of the first half. Senior Sarah Kearney (Wenoah, NJ/Camden Catholic) came in to the game towards the end of the first half and stayed in for the remainder of the game.

The Explorers will continue action at home as they host Lock Haven this Tuesday, September 21st at 4:00 p.m. at Hank DeVincent Field.
