(Explorers Snap Four Game Win Streak) Towson, MD - The La Salle Explorer field hockey team saw a four game win streak snapped Tuesday when they came up short in overtime to host Towson. The loss marked just the second of the season for the Explorers (4-2), while the Tigers improved to 4-2 with the win. The Explorers fell behind in the first, after Towson's Jessica Burkhardt scored on a penalty corner with the assistance of Ashley Bacon at the 11:44 mark. Burkhardt's goal was the only scoring either team could post prior to the intermission. In the second half, Bacon put the Tigers up 2-0 on an unassisted goal 12:42 into the period. It was La Salle's Emily Simone (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon) who got La Salle on the scoreboard with 47:20 elapsed in the contest. Towson's Jess Auge pushed the Tigers ahead at 3-1 after scoring on yet another penalty corner with the help of Bacon. With time winding down, La Salle freshman Allison Geiger (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) provided La Salle with a spark, scoring off a penalty stroke with 4:22 left in regulation. Geiger's goal brought the score to 3-2 before Sara Camilli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) took a shot on a fast break and netted the tying goal with 3:56 remaining to force an overtime. Towson's Andrea Schlezes quickly put an end to the overtime, connecting on a pass from Ashley Lobach 35 seconds into the extra period to lift the Tigers to a 4-3 win. La Salle will look to rebound on Friday, when the Explorers open their home season against UMBC at 7:00 p.m. The game will be held at La Salle's home-away-from-home, Temple's Geasey field.
