![]() Field Hockey Shuts Out Monmouth
W. Long Branch, NJ - The La Salle Explorers made it four in-a-row when they shut out the Monmouth Hawks 6-0 on Friday afternoon. The Explorers improved to 4-1, while the Hawks fell to 1-3 for the season. Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Amy Comstock (Orangeville, PA/Benton) started the scoring off early, after 1:42 of play, Comstock registered her second game-winning goal of the season on an unassisted play. After sitting on a 1-0 lead much of the first half, sophomore Emilie Stewart (Hershey, PA/Hershey) knocked in a pass from senior Tracy Guenther (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) with 4:14 to go before the half. Following the intermission, Guenther moved from the assist person to the scorer at the 50:24 mark of the game to increase the Explorer lead to 3-0. Four minutes and 26 seconds later Comstock tipped in her second goal of the game to extend the lead further. Freshman Allison Geiger (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) got into the scoring on a penalty shot with 7:06 left in the contest. Senior Laura Whitman (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) closed out the scoring at the 67:44 mark to end the scoring at 6-0. The Explorers are off for the weekend, but will return to action on the road Wednesday, when they visit the Towson Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
