Explorers Fall 4-3 On Opening Day of Hofstra Invitational Hempstead, NY - On the opening day of the Hofstra Field Hockey Invitational, the La Salle Explorers fell to the Sacred Heart Pioneers 4-3. With the loss, the Explorers stand at an even .500 at 2-2, while the Pioneers improved to .500 at 3-3 for the season. The Pioneers got the scoring started early, as Jenna McLane converted a penatly corner just 5:13 into the contest with the help of Chrity Bobe and Bryna Bailey. La Salle took just 2:42 longer to get on the scoreboard, as Amy Dalrymple also proved successful on a penalty corner opportunity. Dalrymple got assistance from Lindsey Tyler and Sara Camilli to tie the score at 1-1. Camilli took control for the Explorers and pushed La Salle to a 2-1 advantage with 17:36 to play in the first half. Sophomore Allison Geiger gave the Explorers a two-goal cushion going into the intermission, after connecting on a pass from Camilli with 2:18 remaining. It was all Sacred Heart in the second half, as the Pioneers out shot the Explorers 11-2. The Pioneers also made a change in goal as Robyn Breer took control of the cage for the last 35 minutes. Jenn Howley brought Sacred Heart to within one at 3-2 at the 41:10 makr of the game. The Pioneers then tied the game when Colleen Carney capitalized on a penalty stroke, knocking her shot past La Salle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger. With 3:25 remaining in regulation,k the Pioneers go the go-ahead goal from Katie Bohren to claim victory. The Explorers Will look to get back on the winning trail when they take on host Hofstra on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
