Posted by: Sue Senner CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF A CHAMPIONSHIP LOUISVILLE, KY - The La Salle Explorers completed their weekend in Louisville with a 9-3 loss on Sunday at Trager Stadium. The Explorers drop to 1-3 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 3-1. The Cardinals jumped on the scoreboard when senior Jen Payne connected on an assist from Jessica Javelet just 2:23 into the game. Javelet scored her first goal of the contest on an assist from sophomore Janelle Avila to give Louisville a 2-0 lead at the 7:03 mark. Junio Lisa Wasser delivered an unassisted goal two minutes later to increase the lead to 3-0. Javelet tallied two more goals, making it a 5-0 game midway through the first half. LaSalle's Colleen Nesbitt tipped Allison Geiger's penalty corner shot to put the Explorers on the board at the 24:20 mark in the game. The Cards responded four minutes later when Javelet netted an assist from Payne to make the score 6-1. Payne notched her second goal of the game with 20 seconds remaining in the first half. Casey Meizinger assisted on the goal. Louisville took the 7-1 lead into halftime, outshooting LaSalle 13-1 and holding a 3-1 penalty corner advantage. Casey Diener opened the second half , for the Cardinals, with a goal on Javelet's second assist in the game at the 40:35 mark. A minute later, Javelet tacked on her fifth and final goal of the game with an assist from Carrie Jakcson give the Cards a 9-1 lead.
The Explorers capitalized on a penalty corner when Suzanne Strocen scored on a pass from Geiger at the 48:44 mark. LaSalle's Diana Wurst capped off the scoring when she connected on a penalty assist from Christy Miller at the 56:44 mark for the 9-3 final score. LaSalle goalkeeper Ellen Axelsen (1-3) registered five saves in the loss, while Louisville's Marie-Claire Heller (3-1) got the win, posting two saves in the game. The Cardinals outshot the Explorers 19-6, but LaSalle held an 8-7 penalty corner edge in the game. LaSalle's Ellen Axelsen (1-3) registered five saves in the loss.
