Moser Scores Hat Trick in First WIn of the Season

Posted by: Sue Senner

LOUISVILLE, KY - The La Salle Explorer field hockey team notched its first win of the season Saturday, when they claimed a 4-2 victory over Southwest Missouri.  The Explorers improve to 1-2 on the season, while SW Missouri drops to 0-4.

Junior Jillian Moser topped all scorers in the game, netting a hat trick to lead the Explorers' offensive attack.  Senior Emily Simone rounded out La Salle's scoring with one goal.

Southwest Missouri got on the scoreboard first, netting a goal immediately as the game got underway, as Sarah Wozney took a pass on the left side of the cage from Stephani Wehrman to give SW Missouri the lead at 1-0.

Moser waited almost 12 minutes to answer, as she was fed a pass from Allison Geiger at 11:48 to knot the score at 1-1.  Just three minutes later, Emily Simone paired with Emilie Stewart to score La Salle's next goal (14:54) on a penalty corner, to give the Explorers a 2-1 edge.

Simone's goal proved to be the final goal of the half, and after the break, the drought continued for both teams for just under 20 minutes, until Moser took a pass from freshman Whitney Madron and slipped the ball into the left corner of the cage at the 54:25 mark.  Just over a minute later, at 55:40, Moser completed the hat trick on a pass from Laura Farley.

SW Missouri's Amanda Miyashita added the final goal of the contest on a penalty corner with a pass from Melissa Millan at the 66:30 mark.

In goal for the Explorers, Ellen Axelsen posted four saves in 70 minutes of action, while Kim Kinsella controlled the cage at the opposite end of the field and managed just one save on the afternoon.

La Salle will be back in action on Sunday, when they take on Louisville at 1:00 p.m.
