![]() Field Hockey Gets 4-3 Overtime Win
Claims 4-3 Overtime Victory Over Lafayette Easton, PA - In their second game of the 2004 season, the Explorers posted a thriller as they defeated host Lafayette 4-3, in overtime, Thursday night at Rappolt Field. The Leopards were riding high late in the came, as Lafayette scored two goals in the final three minutes to knot the score at 3-3 and force the extra period. In the end, the experience of senior Sara Camilli (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) propelled the Explorers to victory after completing a hat trick just 1:25 into the sudden death overtime. Camilli scored her first goal 22 minutes into the match after stepping through a Lafayette pass and driving to the cage. Her second score came with 16 minutes left on a nice individual effort in front of the goal, as she flipped the ball over the shoulder of Leopard goalkeeper Jill Lambert. La Salle (1-1) went ahead 3-0, what seemed like a comfortable lead, four minutes later when Amy Comstock (Orangeville, PA/Benton) scored off an assist from Brandi Reed (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen). Freshman forward Laura Fabian started her collegiate career with a memorable goal with 2:59 remaining, as junior midfielder Kasey Gallagher played a ball across the front of the cage and Fabian knocked it home. Lafayette went on the attack seconds later, and sophomore forward Maggie DeFilippo converted on a nearly identical play to make the score 3-3, with the assist coming from senior forward Missy Farrand with 2:04 left in regulation. Then came overtime, and Camilli sent the contingent of La Salle fans who made the trip home happy. The Explorers played the ball in front of the cage, attackers and defenders converged, and Camilli snuck the ball in while falling to the turf. The last six goals were scored in 17 minutes and 26 seconds. La Salle's goalkeeper, Colleen Bolger (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) , made a pair of saves and got the win. Lambert made three saves in suffering the loss. The shots and penalty corners were equal for both sides, at 10 and four respectively. Fabian and fellow freshman Virginia Satterthwaite came off the bench to combine for four shots and give Lafayette an offensive lift. THe Explorers return home on Wednesday, September 8th when they host Monmouth at 4:00 pm on Hank DeVincent Field.
