Hightower Gets Big 5 Nod

Posted by: Marc Mullen

Hightower scored a career-high 29 points at Charlotte.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University Women's Bastball player sophomore Carlene Hightower (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) was honored this week with the Big 5 Player of the Week award after scoring 52 points and grabbing 21 boards last week.

In Tuesday's win versus Big 5-rival Penn, Hightower had her usual solid outing, scoring seven points, grabbing six rebounds, getting three steals, and dishing off two assists. Against Massachusetts, she had 16 points, seven boards and two assists in the Explorers first loss in six games.

However, what put her over the top this week was her career-high 29-point effort at Charlotte. It was the game-high, and is also the individual team-high for this season and the most points scored by an Explorer in three years (Jill Marano, 30, vs. Richmond, 1/23/03). She scored more than half of La Salle's points in the game (they lost 77-57), added eight boards and three steals, and shot 13-of-18 from the floor.

This is the second honor for Hightower this season, her first-ever Big 5 accolade. She was also named to the All-Shootout Team at the South Florida Shootout, where she averaged 15.0 and 7.5 rebounds to open the season.
