Philadelphia, PA - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America along with Adidas issued it's 2003 Middle Atlantic Regional All-American Team today naming La Salle University junior Kevin Coleman (Media, PA/Penncrest) to the second team. This is the fifth time one of Head Coach Pat Farrell's (17 years) players have been named to the All-Region team. The first came in 1990 by Georg Montag, Jeff Van Tiem followed by earning the honors in 1992. Both Cesidio Colasante and Jeff Veneziale were named All-Region in 1994. Colasante went on to gain All-Region accolades for his remaining three years at La Salle, he is the only player to ever receive the honors all four years. "It's is nice to see a player's hard work pay off. Kevin has developed into such a skilled player, and I look forward to seeing what he brings next season," said Farrell. Coleman adds this to a long line of awards and honors he has received during his three years at La Salle. As a freshman in 2001, Coleman, was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team after scoring two goals and recording one assist on the year. He was the fifth highest scorer on the team, he scored his first two career goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 rout over Dayton. As a sophomore, Coleman continued to tally up honors being named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team. Once again he was fifth on the team in scoring with two goals and two assists. He sent the ball to Bob Buoncristiano (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy), in La Salle's double overtime victory in its home opener against St. Peter's. He headed in Buoncristiano's long throw in for the only goal of the game in a 1-0 overtime victory over Richmond, and drove in a penalty kick against Fordham for his two goals of the season. Along with being named to the All-Region second team this year, Coleman earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors and was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star Team. He was second on the team in points with eight, he tallied three goals including one in La Salle's 1-1 tie with Penn. He scored his first goal of the season against Florida International and then went on to score his second versus Virginia Commonwealth. Coleman accumulated two assists during the season as well. He assisted on senior co-captain Tom Kenney's (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill) goal at Richmond. Kenney led the team in points with nine, just one more than Coleman. Coleman, who started in all 18 games he played in, also assisted on Dusan Vujovic's (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/New Hope Solebury) game |
