PHILADELPHIA, PA - Eight explorers were named to the 2006 MAAC Football League All-Academic Team this season. They were: Seniors Zach Greaver (3.25), Taylour Lauri (3.80), Mark Moraca (3.47), Chris Reiter (3.47), Lou Russo (3.61) and Sophomores Chris Hanson (3.86), Anthony Perlozzo (3.75), and Casey Walsh (3.20). Making the All-Academic Team is an impressive honor for these athletes, who are not only outstanding performers on the field, but are excellent achievers in the classroom as well. The Explorers were second in the conference only to Marist, who had one more member named than the Explorers.

These student-athletes are laying the foundation for the vision Coach Miller had when he was hired last March. "We are in the process of building a winning program. We are not satisfied with just winning football games, but winning in all aspects. The members of our program are working hard at winning on the field, in the classroom, in the community, as well as winning socially with our reputations on campus. We are working toward establishing the vision we have for La Salle Football. Our 8 MAAC All Academic nominees are a great example. Next year, we will even have more."

Along with a hard-working academic support staff, Coach Miller and his staff have made a strong effort to ensure that all players who are required to attend study hall do so. Although there is much to be proud of in regard to academics, Coach Miller and his staff are far from satisfied. "We had 38 kids receive higher than a 3.0 GPA this semester, with a number of kids just below that mark. We understand that each of our players are individuals and have different strengths academically. It is our job to push each person to reach their full potential. That might mean a 4.0 or it might mean a 2.5 GPA," Miller explains. "Our players have so many resources to help them be successful. Brother John Kane and his staff do a wonderful job with academic support. The teachers and staff of La Salle University are second to none and care about each individual student. I have been in education for 16 years and I know that La Salle University is a special place because of the staff and students."

As the spring semester begins on Tuesday, January 16th, 2007, the Explorers are getting prepared to have a winning spring. There were 9 freshmen (out of 23) which received higher than a 3.0, with a number of other freshmen above a 2.5. The academic future is bright for the Explorer's football program. Leading the way will be the 8 MAAC Football League Academic players from the 2006 season.
