![]() Darnell Harris is Nominated for the 2008 Wanamaker Award
May 5, 2008 VOTE FOR DARNELL HARRIS Presented by the Philadelphia Sports Congress, the Wanamaker Award is given to the athlete or team who has done most to reflect credit upon Philaldelphia, their team and their sport. Harris capped a record-setting senior season and career at La Salle by winning the annual NCAA Three-point Shootout held at the Final Four in San Antonio, TX. Harris was pitted against eight other senior three-point snipers from across America. he won by defeated Drew Neitzel (Michigan State) and Chris Lofton (Tennessee) in head to head competition. In addition to wrapping up a career that saw him score 1,631 career points and hit 342 three-pointers Harris will receive his bachelors degree in business during La Salle's graduation ceremony this Sunday. Harris drained 123 three-pointers and finished his final season ranked eighth in the nationa with an average of 3.8 three-point field goals per game and fourth in three-point shooting percentage at 47.9%). His seven forseven three-point shooting performance in a La Salle win over Saint Bonaventure also tied for the top performance in NCAA Division I this season. Last Wednesday Harris spoke to 375 elementary school students at Hallowell Elementary in Horsham, PA where he discussed topics such as leadership, responsibiolity and being a positive role model. Among the other candidates for the award are Philadelphia sports icons Jimmy Rollins (Philadelphia Phillies) and Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia Eagles).
