![]() Explorers Split Meet with City Rival-Wildcats
Oct. 25, 2008 Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle men's and women's swimming & diving team opened up the 2008-09 season with a road match against city-rival Villanova at Pavilion Pool on Friday. For the Explorers, the men picked up a win with a 139-104 victory, however, the women fell to Villanova, 168.50-74.50. Freshman Edward Carnes put forth a strong performance in Friday's matchup ending with two first place finishes. In the sixth event, Carnes recorded a time of 1:47.68 in the men's 200-yard freestyle and later on in the men's 200-yard backstroke, he finished with a time of 1:59.34. Freshman Jordan Baker finished first in both the 1-meter diving (2164.75) and the 3-meter diving (297.45). In the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, the Explorers finished in first place with the help of senior Carleen Caldwell, sophomores Holly Biro and Alex Stoddart and junior Shannon Duval. Duval also achieved first place honors in the women's 50-yard freestyle (24.78). The Explorers return to action on Saturday, October 25 when they host their first home meet of the season at Kirk Pool. Their matchup against Drexel begins at 1:00 PM.
