Swimming and Diving Completes Third Day at A-10 Championships

BUFFALO, NY - The La Salle University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the third day of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center. After three days, the men are in sixth place, while the women stand in seventh.

Sophomore Shannon Duval got the women off to a solid start on Friday, finishing fourth in the finals of the 400-yard IM (4:30.15). Brittany Sedberry and Megan Reis also scored points for the Explorers in the event, placing 11th and 14th, respectively.

Senior Jaclyn Kubala advanced to the finals of the 200-yard freestyle, placing 16th. Freshman Jess Carbin would later earn a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 58.19.

The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Carbin, Duval, Holly Biro and Carleen Caldwell finished eighth.

On the men's side, Grant Chin scored big with a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM. The senior notched a season-best time of 4:02.34 in the event. Sophomore Matt Caines and freshman Kieran Edling also scored points, placing in the top 16. Sophomore Matt Harner placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (51.50).

John Welsh raced to a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.53), while Owen Black placed 11th. David Ellerson and Chris Tiano put points on the board for La Salle in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing ninth and tenth, respectively. Stuart Barr earned a 12th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.11.

 

 

Barr, Ellerson, Harner and Welsh teamed up to place seventh in the 400-yard medley relay.
