PHILADELPHIA - Matt Weidemer and Joe Hughes earned a silver medal in the final of the men's pair event at the historic Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. Also in action was the men's novice eight boat, which rowed in the semifinals.

Weidemer and Hughes crossed the finish line in 7:27.966, three seconds ahead of third-place Fairfield. Mercyhurst University won the race in 7:21.320.

They advanced to the final via a second place finish in their semifinal. In the semi, they raced a 7:21.420 to finish just behind Fairfield.

The men's novices, coxed by Matt Horn, also rowed in semifinal action on Saturday morning. They rowed a 6:10.913, just 1.7 seconds out of advancing to the final. Delaware and Rochester Tech placed 1-2 in that semi.
