La Salle Races on Schuylkill in Bergen Cup

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University Rowing entered six boats into the Bergen Cup - an event for the local schools to compete and named in the memory of one of the nation's great oarsmen Dr. John Bergen - on the Schuylkill River, Saturday. The Men had three boats in the water, with the Freshmen 4 winning its race in a time of 7:00.0, beating Temple by eight seconds. The Men's Varsity 8 (6:22.0) and the Second Varsity 8 (6:44.2) each placed fourth in their respective events. The Women's Freshmen 4 also posted the best result on their side, as they finished second in a time of 8:23.7, just six seconds ahead of Drexel. The Women's Varsity 8 finished fifth, stopping the clock in 7:13.5, while the Varsity 4 took fourth in the closest race of the day. Five seconds separated first through first, as Saint Joseph's won in 7:53.1 and La Salle crossed the line in 7:58.2. The Explorers will take next weekend off before racing in the Dad Vails on the Schuylkill River starting May 9.
