Player Profile

Kale Beers is in his eighth full year as the Director of Athletic Communications for La Salle University. The voice of Explorer basketball for the past 12 seasons, Beers is the longest tenured play-by-play man in the Big 5 and only the great Dan Baker (Drexel) has called more city series games among current broadcasters.

Beers broadcasted his300th Explorer men's basketball gameduring the 2007-08 season and has also calledover 500 Explorer events including men's and women's basketball and football since 1996.

Beers took over the Athletic Communications office in January of 2002 after serving in various capacities in each of the past 12 years including the Director of Corporate Sales/Broadcasting. In this position, he was responsible for the Department's Corporate Partnership program and coordination of the La Salle Basketball Radio Network, which he helped form in 1996.

Beers is also an adjunct instructor in the University's Department of Communication. He is in his ninth year as an instructor of Public Speaking (Comm 150). Beers has also begun work on his Masters in Business Administration at the University.

A 1995 maxima cum laude graduate of La Salle's Department of Communication, Beers is currently working in his 16th season in professional and collegiate sports. His career began as a junior at La Salle when he secured an internship with the Philadelphia Phillies. He would continue to work in the Phillies' Video Services Department through the 1996 season and has since built an exceptional resume as a play-by-play broadcaster and public relations director for the minor league affiliates of the Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Anaheim Angels, and the Kansas City Royals. Most recently, he has served asthe second man on theReading Phillies broadcast team, filling in for Steve Degler during 25 games in the 2008 season.

Beers has also worked close to a dozen NCAA men's basketball tournament games over the last three seasons including Regional Finals in Austin TX (2005), Washington, DC (2006) and East Rutherford, NJ (2007) as well as opening round games in Philadelphia in 2006 where he assisted in media operations.Heserved as a media assistant for the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2008 National League Championship and World Series.

He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors Association (Co-SIDA), East Coast Association of Colleges Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association and the United States Basketball Writers Association.

Beers, 37, was born in Emmaus, PA., and is a veteran of the U.S. Army, in which he served six years (two in active duty) as a Cavalry Scout.
