A Few Things You Should Know About Explorer Athletics
- La Salle student-athletes boast an outstanding 10-year graduation rate of 82 percent and annually rank among the nation's leaders. Since 1996, 23 student-athletes have been recognized as Academic All-Americans. La Salle has a 93 percent graduation rate for student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility. Each rate is higher than the national average for Division I programs.
- La Salle was recently identified as the 53rd best basketball program of all time by Street and Smith's basketball publication. La Salle had three NCAA National Basketball Players of the Year and is one of the 17 schools to win both the post-season NIT and NCAA Tournaments.
- La Salle has three NCAA National Basketball Players of the Year (Tom Gola, Michael Brooks, and Lionel Simmons). Only Duke has more (6).
- La Salle has three of the top five point scorers in Big Five history (Simmons, Brooks, and Gola).
- The 1980 Women's Field Hockey team won the National Championship.
- The 2006 La Salle Baseball team won the Liberty Bell Classic and the first ever Diamond Five.
- La Salle has had 17 Olympians, including four gold medallists.
- La Salle annually ranks in the top three for the number of student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 and MAAC Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
- Track and Cross Country Coach Charles Torpey has received 14 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Honors.
- Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Swimming, Women's Soccer, Women's Cross-Country, and Men's Tennis were recognized by their respective coaches' associations, for national academic achievement. Field Hockey and Women's Basketball have been ranked number one in the nation in team G.P.A.
- La Salle Athletics' Project Teamwork has been recognized by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports for five consecutive years for Excellence in Community Service and Youth Outreach.
- The Cross Country teams have won 9 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships during the past 8 years.
- The Cross Country and Track & Field teams have won a combined 13 conference championships since joining the Atlantic 10.
- Sean Quigley is a two-time Cross Country All-American.
- La Salle has had 26 Performers-of-the-Year since joining the Atlantic 10 Conference.
